Magnolias

My flower paintings came after watching the flowers dying in my garden as we came into autumn, I felt sad for the short life they had, which took me to thoughts of spring, and the joy of new life. I needed to capture the flowers in a permanent state of life.
I had no pre conceived ideas of how to paint flowers, all I had done in the past were small dots as part of my landscapes my uncle taught me to paint when I was a teenager. I guess I just went with that… it reflects what’s in my mind, just an abstract montage of colour and shape.- Simon Iredale
